Baring My Soul

Since today was the 5th Sunday, our Relief Society and Priesthood meetings were combined. The topic of discussion was "Defining Moments." I learned a few things about myself today.
1. I don't like to be put on the spot...it makes me so nervous that all I can do is cry.
2. I CRY over EVERYTHING!
3. I have an opinion and it's okay to share it.
4. I can participate in the discussion and no one is sitting there wishing I would shut up and sit down. (I hope).
Our Bishop randomly asked me to share a defining moment in my life. In my head I was asking, "why me? I really don't have a defining moment that will contribute to this meeting." However, I gathered my courage and stood in front of all those people to share. And you know what? I have defining moments in my life just like everybody else does in theirs. I just have to recognize them as such. So this is my new goal. I want to be able to recognize the defining moments in my life. I want the experiences in my life to have meaning, and not just for a moment, but for a lifetime. They are there, I just have to acknowledge them.
So many times I just sit in my meetings and listen. Today I participated, and I'm glad I did. But it was really scary!

Purple...Polka Dots....Dresses

Miracle! I was able to talk Leighna out of a dress!!! She has had two on already today, but when her friends came to ask her to play I told her she had to change the dress. Mostly because it was Addie's Sunday dress. She cried, but was convinced when I found her purple polka-dot outfit from Granny Bailey! Her favorites! Purple and Polka-Dots...well besides dresses!

Spontaneous Trip

I got to go home on Wednesday! It was kind of a spare of the moment decision! Katie graduated from High School on Wednesday night and I wasn't going to go, but my sisters were going so I decided to ride up with them. Only thing is, I got to Cedar and we were supposed to get in Mandy's car and head up from there, but by the time we were ready to leave it was about 12:00 noon and getting pretty hot. Mandy's car doesn't have air conditioning, so we decided to take mine instead. Which totally defeated the purpose of my riding with Mandy, but hey, we had cool air! Plus she was awesome and helped pay for gas, so it all worked out! I don't know why it's so impossible for me to get out of this house, it always seems like it will be simple but it never is. I got up at 5:45 AM so I could take Jon to work and have the van. I was just going to drop him off, come home and shower, gather up a few clothes and things and be off.....did it happen that way...NO! I dropped off Jon and came home and it was still really early so I decided I would do a short workout on our new WII Fit thing. So I did that so that I could have a record of doing it everyday, by the time I got showered and everything loaded, it was 8:30...I thought I was doing good and Mandy would be so excited because I would actually be on time (we had planned to meet at 10:00 AM) So, on my way there was construction all the way through Toquerville. They were only letting one lane of traffic through at a time and it wasn't just through town, it was all the way from Toquerville to the freeway, it took me 30 minutes just to get through there! Then by the time I got to the rest stop I could barely keep my eyes open so I stopped to rest for a few minutes. I was only going to rest for 10 minutes and it only felt like 5, I don't know how long I was there really, but I didn't get to Cedar until 10:02! And I was trying so hard!!! I guess it was better to stop and rest than to not make it because of an accident, so I can't really complain!
I think Katie's graduation was good. I spent 95% of the time in the hall with my children, but hey I got to watch her walk! Congratulations Katie! I'm so proud of you! She is currently on her senior trek to Disneyland, Knott's Berry Farm, Sea World, and I think they get to go to an Angels game tonight! Brings back so many memories of my senior trek! We had a blast. That was 11 years ago for me! I can't believe how fast life has gone by since then! What happened to the time?
Sarah got to come home with me, so she will be here for the week! It's our yearly tradition that she stays for a week with me! I know she's been looking forward to it for a really long time, so I hope I can live up to her expectations and make it fun! Sometimes I'm just plain boring!
It was nice to be home for a few days! Sometimes I wish I lived closer to my family but I know that this is where the Lord wants me to be. And I love it here! Maybe I could convince them to move down here......hmm......not gonna happen! Oh, well! It could be worse!
I love you Fam!

The Meaning of Life???

Recently my sister wrote on her blog, and the title of her post was "the meaning of life" so I have been pondering the meaning of my life. Could it possibly be laundry, dishes, poopy diapers, breakfast, lunch and dinner, and every mess in between all to be repeated the next day????? There seriously has to something more to this! I have had it with messes, so I have stopped cleaning them up because I feel like it's just a waste of time, it never stays done. Then Porter ends up with some disgusting thing in his mouth and I decide to do a little cleaning. I read an ensign article a while ago and I wish I could remember what the title of it was and who wrote it. I don't have a very good memory so I can't even remember all of what it said, but it was meant for me. It said something like we are given the mundane tasks of laundry and dishes and so forth so that we can learn responsibility and when we prove ourselves with the little things, we will be able to accomplish and be responsible for larger things later....or something like that. I wish I could find it again because I definitely need a reminder. I feel like I am just following my family around cleaning up after them. What is the purpose of that??? I would like to be anxiously engaged in a good cause, but there is no time and by the time I feel like I could do something besides clean up, its time for dinner and then I'm exhausted. I would like my yard to be immaculate, but who has time. My yard is a mess, however we did work on it a little for Family night...all of my kids fell asleep at the same time...so Jon and I went to work on the yard for a little while. We got quite a bit accomplished, I even earned a blister! But to me it still doesn't look the way I want it too so it makes Jon really frustrated that I'm not just happy with what we did get done. Sorry Jon. It is looking better, a few more nights like tonight and we'll have it! (nice family night huh??? all the kids slept through it! We did take them for ice cream when they woke up though!) I hope that counts!
I have adorable kids. I love them to the ends of the earth. They are the meaning of my life! I will clean up after them, I will do their dishes and laundry and change their dirty diapers and clean up all their spills and feed them and hopefully in between all of that I can teach them how to be decent human beings and how to choose right from wrong and maybe they will make a small difference in this world!

Porter helping me with the dishes! Can this be my baby boy...growing up so fast!

Adelah made me this lovely cracker cake! I think she's got talent! :-)

And this is my little princess...in her second princess dress so far today!

Wedding Bells Are Ringing!

My little brother is getting married! I can't believe it!!! I am so excited for him! Camron has finally found his companion for life. Her name is Lindsay. She is from Boise Idaho. I haven't met her yet, but I talked to her on the phone for a few minutes and she sounds really nice! I'm very excited to have another sister. You can't have too many you know! They are getting married on August 1st. Yeah Cam and Lindsay! CONGRATULATIONS!
Last night I had a little bit of a break down. Weddings are stressful, and we just got done with Mandy's. But this one might not be so bad since we are on the Groom's side, but we'll see. We have to come up with over $500 extra dollars just so we can make the trip up there. Not that I'm complaining, just that it adds another stress. I'm not sure how to do it because I am a horrible budgeter. We have to make a 10-11 hour trip with three little kids which is a huge stress! And I need to lose about 20 pounds so I can maybe look halfway decent at this wedding! HUGE STRESS! Too bad stress just makes me get fatter. I know it's 2 months away, but if I worry about it now, then I can get it over with and enjoy my trip! I've been wanting to go on a road trip for a long time, so it gives me a great excuse, I just wasn't planning on one so soon, so my funding isn't where I want it to be! Jon was great though. He listened to my complaints and then he reassured me that it will be great and we (including the children) will have a great time!! I'm sure that we will!
Cam, I am so happy for you! You are starting your own family! I think back on my wedding day and it was one of the happiest days of my life! You have found your eternal companion, Love her, Cherish her! She will bring you so much happiness. Sometimes marriage is hard but stay committed and communicate with each other and you will be able to grow stronger as a couple! It will be a great journey for you both! I love you! Can't wait to meet my new sister!
Sorry about the little rant, but that's what it's like to be in my head!

This Wittle Piggy...

This is what I heard as I was getting ready for church this morning...

Leighna: "This wittle piggy went to market...this wittle piggy had moofies...this wittle piggy had noodles...and that one...stinks!"

Ahh....Cool, Clear, Water

I'm A NEW AUNT!!!! Yeah! Congratulations Jon and Ruth!!!! They had their baby boy early this morning....Landon Joe Baker! 7 lbs 3 oz (maybe 5 oz....I'm terrible, I'm not sure)! Long red hair!! Another red head in the family!! I can't wait to post pictures. I will post them as soon as I can! I love being an Aunt, you get to be cool and fun and exciting, without any of the messy stuff like discipline and poopy diapers (except I have a baby myself, so I really do have to do poopy diapers!) My mom and dad now have as many grandkids as they have kids! They're at that multiply and replenish stage of the game...I'm just in the addition stage (1+1+1)(and that's the way I like it...1 at a time)!

Mandy came down and saved me today. Turns out she needed a day out as badly as I did! It worked out nicely for both of us! We went to town and picked out some fabric for a quilt she wants to make, then we bought lunch and took it to the water park to eat! Oh, fabulous water park....we need one here...can we vote on that somewhere???
The girls got nice and wet and cooled off and it was fun to watch them play. They love the little waterfalls and the little stream. But they also enjoy the splash pad.
They got surprised a few times by the changing of the water on the splash pad, but made it out without too much wetness! There was a grandpa there with some of his grandkids and he was loving the splash pad! I think he was having more fun than the kids. Fun to watch!

I enjoy that little water park. I can get my feet wet without getting all wet...which is something I don't like. Water always looks so enticing to me, but I really don't like to be all wet. Just my feet! I like to get my feet wet.
Just as we were getting ready to leave, I was gathering up the kids and kind of herding them towards the car, and a little boy, about Leighna's age had a water gun (this was no small water gun...it was one of those long ones that hold about 2 gallons of water! It was twice as big as the little kid!) and he soaked me!!! As he was squirting me, he had this little evil laugh! It was really funny and if I would have known the kid I would have laid him down in the water...but since I didn't I had to just laugh at him. Then I turned back around and he did it again! My whole back side was soaked! Little turkey! Good thing he was cute!

Then we came back home and I helped Mandy cut out her quilt. It took most of the afternoon, but it's all cut and she has one square sown together! Quilting is my new thing, for the moment. I'm loving it. I need to post a few pictures of the quilt I'm currently working on.
In closing....A note to my Hot Hubby.... I LOVE YOU! You're the greatest! I would be so lost without you! You're my everything! Thank you for your hard work and your love and support! You are loved and appreciated, I hope that you know that! I LOVE YOU WITH MY WHOLE HEART! Thanks for picking me!
Love me!

Coconut Bras, Tumblin' Tumbleweeds, and Relaxing Hair Cut

Yesterday Katie and my Mom stopped by for a little while. They had been in Cedar checking out apartments for Katie next fall. Mandy just got back from Hawaii, and she gave Kate a lovely gift...

Katie wore it with pride...I think it was horrifying to my mother!
A huge tumble weed blew into my back yard, so I told Katie she should go throw it over the fence. I thought it was picture worthy!!
It's probably not very nice of me to throw big tumbleweeds over the fence, but it was really fun to watch Kate try to throw it over!!!

Last week Adelah and Leighna got their hair cut. It put Leighna right to sleep! I had to hold up her head so Kenna could finish cutting it!

Technichal Difficulties

I have been having some major issues with technology this week! I haven't posted because my Internet has not been working this past week. The technician guy just barely left. He said it's working now, but it may not work for very long, I may have to change services because of the trees. So I decided I better get my post in while I can. Besides that, Jon let Porter play with my phone last week and he sucked on it and got it all nice and slobbery, and now my phone isn't working either. I tried the "put it in rice for 24 hours" thing but of course that doesn't work for me. My phone is still out of commission. Plus, Jon broke the flusher thing on our toilet and the remote to our new TV. Man, he's had a rough week! Poor thing! So aside from being cut off from the world around me, I guess everything is OK.

Almost An Accident

The worst thing in the world to me is going to the bathroom. So, naturally, I wait until the very last minute to go, thereby only spending the time necessary in there. Today this almost caused a disaster. My little Leighna has discovered how to lock the doors and enjoys doing so so she can use her key to unlock them. This proves to be a pain in my neck! I go to put toys away....door's locked! I go to put clothes away....door's locked! I go to go to the bathroom...DOOR'S LOCKED!!!! I had to wait for Leighna who said, "Oh, I get it for you" and she used her key to unlock it. I almost didn't make it!!

My Greatest Blessings!!!!

Grandma's Painting

On Sunday my dad gave all of my siblings and I a few treasures from my Grandma Baker. Just a few trinkets that will always be precious because they were once hers and will always remind me of her. I got a lot of her craft stuff because my brothers and sisters call me the "crafty" one. Which really isn't true. I'm really not crafty minded. But sometimes I try to pretend. So I am inspired to try a few new crafty things and maybe I can expand my horizons a little. Could be scary though.
Mostly though, my dad gave me one of my Grandma's paintings. She was a great artist and painted a lot of pictures. I am so glad that I have one to display in my home. It's my Grandma's legacy. The only problem is that every time I look up and see it, it makes me sad and I yearn for my Grandma's embrace. Maybe that will pass with time, but a part me hopes not. I don't want her memory to fade. Grandma had this painting hanging in her bedroom so it's one she looked at all the time. I feel like I should be sitting on the edge of her bed, but I'm sitting in my living room... I feel like it's out of place, it shouldn't be here with me, it should be there with her...but she's not even there. Kind of hard to think about. But her painting will make it's home with me and it will forever be my treasure.

Kisses from Prt

I have another couple hundred pictures from this weekend and I wish I could share them all. *sigh* But, for now I am just sharing these precious pictures of Porter with my mom. I love, love, love them!!!!

Kisses, Kisses, Kisses...Prt lacks no passion in his kisses. If he gives you a kiss, you are KISSED!

P.S. My Mom is starting to feel a lot better. Thanks for your prayers!

Happy Mother's Day!

It's Mother's Day! The day that we celebrate and honor the special women who brought us into this world. The sacrifice of a mother is unmeasurable. I cannot begin to express the gratitude I feel toward my own mother! Mom, I love you so very much. I owe my mom everything that I am. She brought me into this world. She suffered sickness and bigness for me. Then she spent hours tending to my every need. She taught me everything I know. Most importantly she taught me about the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It is in anchor in my life. I would be so lost without it. I am so grateful for my mom, who took the time to teach me, to love me, and to guide me. She is always there for me no matter what. I am eternally grateful for you, mom! I am also grateful for my mother-in-law (actually my second mother, but just so you know who I'm referring to.) I love you. Thank you for raising such a wonderful son. He would not be the man he is without having such a wonderful mother in his life. I am grateful to you in so many ways that I don't know how to express. Thanks for your support and love. Thanks for being a mother to me as well.

I also feel so much gratitude for my Grandmothers. Their influence and love have such an impact on my life. They are the women who molded my parents and who molded me. I am forever in debted to them.
A mother's love is timeless! It passes from one generation to another. I love you Moms and Grandmoms!!!

(I love Grandma Allred too, I just don't have a picture. Sorry.)

Hospitals

My mom is in the hospital tonight getting a blood transfusion. It really very disturbing to me, so I try not to think about it, but I can't keep myself distracted, it's my mom! Her blood count has been quite low for awhile, and she is anemic besides so her body is having a hard time building the blood cells back up. I don't know, the thought of having someone else's blood run through your veins is a little creepy to me. But how blessed we are that they are able to do such a thing. Thank heavens for modern medicine! She will be in the hospital for the rest of the night, but hopefully she will get to go home tomorrow. I'm so worried about her. I hope that everything goes well.
On that note, my girls got their teeth fixed today. They had to do same day surgery at the hospital. They were pretty brave. Leighna was brave until they took her away from me. They started wheeling her bed away, and she kept calling for me. It just about broke my heart. But thank heaven again for caring doctors and nurses. The anesthesiologist stopped the bed and he picked Leighna up and carried her down the hall. I could hear him trying to comfort her as I tried to keep myself from falling apart and running down the hall after her. What is this bond between a mother and her children....it is a stronger instinct than I have ever felt before. Sometimes I'm not sure how to control it. But I stood in the hallway for a minute trying to force myself out the other door. I finally did when a few other hospital staff started looking at me quizzically. So I went back downstairs to sit with Jon and Addie to wait. Addie did really well too! She didn't cry when they took her away, thank goodness. I don't think I could have walked away again, but Leighna was waking up in the other room and I could hear her crying as we were walking out. Jon asked if that was Leighna and I just had to say yes and keep moving and try not to think about it. When we finally got to go back in and be with Leighn she was pretty tired still and just wanted me to hold her. Which was great because I just wanted to hold her too. That lasted for about 15-20 minutes and then she wanted down. She washed her hands quite a few times, she climbed up and down the bed. Jon read her a story and she played with a toy that made noise. She kept wanting to touch everything.....that's Leighna, can't keep a good woman down!!! When Addie came out of the anesthesia, she just laid there for a few minutes and then she burst into tears. She wanted the IV out and she wanted her clothes back on instead of the hospital gown (I don't blame her, nothing worse than a hospital gown to make you feel uncomfortable.) She wanted me to hold her too. So I did. Then she wanted to lay in the bed with me. So I curled up next to her and we watched Diego (my favorite.....not). But anything for your baby, right? She was still pretty groggy when we left so she would be OK for a few minutes and then suddenly burst into tears all over again. When we got home they slept for quite awhile or at least rested watching a movie, so that helped a lot. It was a crazy day, but not nearly as traumatic as I expected it to be. Thank you Doctors and Nurses for taking great care of my children!!! When Addie started feeling a little better she got up and said she needed to go look at her teeth. She went in the bathroom and came out so happy. She showed me her shiny new teeth! She is so proud of her shiny silver caps in the back! I think she got up and went to look at them 3 or 4 times! Leighna is happy about hers too, she keeps saying, "mine teef is shiny too." Kind of funny, but I think she kind of speaks with a little lisp now! It's like she can't quite get used to the way they feel! So Cute!
So that was our day. Well, part of our day, we had a barbecue at Grandma and Grandpa Allred's afterwards. But that is another post....probably not so close to midnight!!! Good Night All!
Please pray for my mom!

Snip...Snip...

Here's my new hair cut. I really can't take a flattering picture of myself, so please don't laugh. Seriously, I tried about 20 times and these are the only half decent ones.

Our Weekend in Cedar

After Mandy and Kevin's Graduation, we went up the Discovery Park. It was pretty fun. They have a swing that has two swings connected with a beam, it is the funnest swing ever. One person's momentum is stolen to swing the other person. So as you are swinging all of sudden you can't go anywhere while the other person is flying. Then it will switch and the person who was at a standstill is suddenly flying while the other person can barely swing. It's pretty fun. We had a good time playing on it.

I just got done bottling butter!!! Exciting huh? It was pretty easy. The shaking process takes a little while, but nothing too serious. I think it turned out pretty well. I did 10 lbs of butter and I got 23 1/2 half pints.
It's warming up. Yesterday I was really tempted to turn on the air conditioning, but I resisted. I don't know if I can resist today. The girls are begging me to go out and run in the sprinklers so maybe that will distract me from air conditioning! Well, I'm off to the front yard....bring on the water works!!!

Feelin' Slug-ish

This is the slug I found on my back porch!

This is the slug when Jon poured salt on it.

Yeah. Totally DISGUSTING!

Confessions and Updates

I have two Grandma's who are in Heaven right now, looking down, watching over me....I am grateful to know that. However, my house is a complete disaster and I'm sure they are both having a canary right now! If I could hear them I'm sure I would get a lecture on how cleanliness is next to Godliness. My Grandpas are probably telling them to relax, she has three kids and can't keep it all together all the time, and then when they see the condition of my house they also have a bird!
Seriously...I don't know what my problem is. I consider myself a fairly good housekeeper. I can usually keep it in some semblance of order, but lately, I don't know what my problem is. I am ashamed to open my door more than 2 inches and then I'm afraid the whole time that whoever is at my door can see right through me and into my disaster! My sisters even came for a couple hours, and I didn't even clean for them. I just let them join the chaos! It seems that even when I do clean it only stays clean for a matter of minutes, so why bother. But I have to get my act together! I have company coming this weekend and I cannot let them see my house in such disarray!
If your vacuum sucks, is that a good thing? I submit that it is! My vacuum is dying. I tried to do surgery using surgical duct tape, but I don't know how long it can hold up. I'm not even sure I got all the holes in the hose covered. A vacuum salesman told me once that vacuums only last about 5 years. I thought yeah right, I have had mine for 5 years and it's just fine. Well now, 6 months later...it's on its way out! The sad thing is it is the best vacuum I have ever had, and I don't know if I can find one that works as good. I bought my mom one and it was terrible. So I am afraid of buying a new one. Oh well. I guess it just has to be done.

Porter had his doctor's appointment today. He is in the 54 percentile in weight and 74th in height. I thought he was a lot bigger than that, but maybe I'm just used to my kids being below average instead of average. He is doing really well though. He got to eat peas for dinner. His first vegetable! He loved it! Jon couldn't feed him fast enough! He is so close to crawling. He can get across the room pretty quick, but he still can't quite figure out his hands. The doctor said he is doing really well and I don't have to take him back until he's a year old!

My sister Mandy is on her way to the airport, heading to Hawaii! She will be gone for the next 2 weeks! Have a great trip Mand! She and her new husband Kevin graduated on Saturday.

Heidi and Jason are getting moved into their new apartment. They are going to be the managers, so they will be busy for awhile! They blessed Wyatt on Sunday so we had a great visit with our family. It was a very nice blessing.

Jon and Ruth are so close to moving into their new house. Hopefully within the next week because Ruth is due to have a baby in 2!
Katie is graduating from High School in about 3 weeks.
Sarah is waiting impatiently for summer!

I haven't heard about Camron or Brett lately, so I hope they're good.

Life keeps marching on and we just keep trying to keep up!

Oh, I forgot to mention we got some new pets! They are fish! Heidi and Jason gave us their tank and our girls are thrilled about it! They have already named most of them. Strawberry (Shortcake), Strawberry's friend Gingerbread girl, Kitty Kat (it's a cat fish), and Angela. There are two more fish, but they haven't been named yet. Anyway, they love them! Thanks Heidi and Jason!

Happy News

Today I got very happy news! My Uncle George and Aunt Wendy have been trying for a very long time to have children. Sadly they have not been able to. But today, my Uncle George called, and they are adopting 2 babies from Pakistan!!! I think that is so Amazing and Awesome!!! A boy, 6 months, and a girl 18 months. I am so excited to see them! They are just waiting for visas so they can go get them! Those babies are going to make them so happy, and what a blessing for the children. They will be extremely blessed to be able to come here! I am so happy for George and Wendy. It has been a long hard wait...and finally, their waiting will pay off! CONGRATULATIONS UNCLE GEORGE AND AUNT WENDY!!!! I couldn't be happier!

The Cold Room

We have made it a family ritual to go to Costco on Fridays and have lunch with Grandma Allred. Jon has Friday's off so that means I actually have a means of transportation AND help with the children. (It's hard with three!) We eat lunch and then we wander the store. Sometimes just browse and sometimes we actually get to buy things! Today was a buying day since it is pay day and because there is a national crisis with the swine flu!! I wasn't about to walk out of there not totally stocked up! (Thanks Jon for your understanding! Maybe it will help us both sleep a little better!) It was pretty fun to fill up my cart! I quite enjoyed it. I always want to be the one walking out of there with a heaping cart full, but not the one to pay for it! It amazes me how fast it adds up! Anyway, on every trip my girls love to go in the "cold room!" Which is where they have all of their fresh fruits and vegetables, so it is freezing in there! My girls love it! We have to go in there every time we go. I don't think Porter appreciates it too much, but maybe when its 110 degrees he'll change his mind. Last week we went in the "cold room" and Leighna kept saying, "I fweezin, you fweezin Add?"....."I fweezin, you fweezin Add?" Finally Addie replied, "Yeah Leighn, I'm freezin, can't you see the sweat drippin in my eyes!" I forgot about it until today when they wanted to go in the "cold room"!

Tonight we had a barbecue with our friends and neighbors to welcome Dennis home and celebrate his graduation from POST (the Police Academy)! WELCOME HOME DENNIS! Great food, great company, great time! A few of the neighbors were wondering if I was going to post it on my blog and so to them I say....
Dennis, you are incredibly strong. I can't believe the size of those rippling biceps! POST did you a lot of good! I'm glad you survived it. Quite the accomplishment....especially for someone your age (not that you're old!) ;-) Ha ha just kidding...It really is a great accomplishment I know Shawna is very proud of you, and we are too! It's great to have you back!
Kevin, you are simply HILARIOUS! Absolutely the life of the party! Thanks for giving us a reason to laugh! Laughing keeps us young, that's why we all look so good!!!
Paulette and Diane, Good luck on your 5K tomorrow! We will be cheering you on! Go, Fight, WIN!!
Marie, I hope you feel better so you can join the fun from the inside, not on the outskirts, we missed you.
Shawna, Thank You! You are such a great friend!
To all the rest of you who were there, I love ya! It was so fun to hang out together!
