An Evening on the Beach

Not the beach you're thinking about.... But the beach at Sand Hollow. It was beautiful. The kids had a great time. Porter was intrigued by the water and started walking into it until he realized how cold it was. Still a little too early for that.

Ignore the beer can in the background. I guess I wasn't paying close attention when I took this picture.
Leighna had a great time collecting....

Sea Shells! Every one she picked up, she asked if she could keep. I was impressed with how she would examine each one and notice the different colors or the different shapes and sizes.

The Babe wrote, "I (heart) TBA in the sand.....sweet.

Addie had fun exploring and finding shells and watching seagulls.

The Babe in his realm!

We fed the seagulls goldfish (the cracker kind). The kids loved that! They would watch as they circled around our heads and then swoop down to the water to catch the goldfish.

We had a great time, I can't wait til it gets a little warmer.

Tidbits

Prt's new favorite spot...
Bugga's cake (she took the picture herself)...

My new rug...

I wondered why he was being so quiet, but I thought he was eating...

(this just barely happened by the way. I was reading blogs, while I ate my lunch and turned around because he was being so quiet.) Cute little buggar!

Burn Baby Burn

Last night we had a...I guess you could say we had a catastrophe. First of all, I'm embarrassed to post about this, but it happened, and so it must be shared. I don't know what my problem is, but somehow I lost my touch. Remember the zucchini pie??? Of course you do, it wasn't that long ago. This is right up that ally. Tonight I have to do a demonstration on how to decorate a cake for our Relief Society. So, last night at about 9:30 I decided I better get the cakes baked. I was trying to have a conversation with The Babe, and it was completely distracting me from my task at hand, so I told him to come into the kitchen and talk to me while I baked cakes. By the time I actually got the cake in the oven it was 10:15. But I thought I could at least get one of them baked and do the other one in the morning. The Babe mixed the batter with me giving him unnecessary instructions. But hey, that just me. I think he rolled his eyes at me when I took hold of the mixer and moved it to the spot where I thought it needed extra mixing. He mixed for a minute til the ingredients were mixed together. But I told him he had to mix it for at least 2 minutes so it will be light and fluffy. So he proceeded to mix for another minute just to please the boss. :-) He poured the batter into the pan while I scraped the sides. As he was pouring I said, "Wow, that's a lot of batter." He asked, "Do you want me to take some out?" I said, "No, it'll be alright, I think." Then I proceeded to scrape the rest of the batter into the pan. I put it in the oven and set the timer for 30 minutes, then continued my conversation with The Babe. About 25 minutes later I could smell smoke and I looked over at the oven, and smoke was billowing out the door! I ran to the kitchen and opened the oven....and saw the most horrific sight I have ever seen in an oven!

My mouth fell open and all I could do was stand there and stare! Seriously I just stood there and stared at it for at least 10 minutes. It was like a train wreck and the batter just kept oozing over the sides as I stood there and stared! Finally I moved into action and pulled the oozing mess out of the oven. The Babe and I ate the top crusty layer, which actually tasted really good, and the rest we poured down the drain. We decided that it would not be wise to cook anything in the oven until we cleaned it. So naturally we decided to just do it. We flipped the oven into the cleaning position. Then we started talking about whether it would actually ignite and have flames or if it would just slowly cook off. I told him I had seen flames in my oven before, so it would probably have flames. A few minutes later my oven burst into flames! We could here it suck in oxygen as it burned itself out. It startled both of us. So we continued to watch for more flames. As the heat increased, so did the outbursts of flames. We stood a mere 5 feet away wondering if the whole thing would explode and burn the house down or if it would stop soon. With each burst of flame came lots and lots of smoke. The oven vent was pouring smoke into our house. We tried turning on the microwave vent but it just sent the smoke up instead of out. Our eyes started burning and it was starting to get kind of hard to breathe. So we opened the window in the kitchen and the front and back door. Still the whole house was filled with smoke. With the doors open, we could see the smoke flowing out of the house. By this time it was getting pretty late, but neither of us dared leave the oven. Just when we thought we were done with the flames, it would light up again. So I turned off the kitchen light and we stood in front of our burning oven and watched the flames. It was quite entertaining, but we didn't dare go to bed, we were afraid the house would catch on fire and we wouldn't know because it was already so full of smoke. I think we need to check our smoke alarms though, our house was clear full of smoke and not one smoke alarm went off. That's not real comforting!

Bath Time

The other day I got all the kids bathed. I got Prt out and got him all dressed and ready for the day. I got Buggie out and got her all ready for the day. Add wanted to stay in a little longer. She always takes the longest baths. So I let her. I went about my business getting ready for the day. Then Buggie came running in, "Prt needs you mommy, hurry." So I ran to the bathroom where I found this scene...

Apparently he was reaching for the bottle and leaned just a little too far! Good thing Add was in there to save him. It's also good that I hadn't put on his shoes and socks yet!

SNOW

This morning we woke up to a little white stuff! The girls were thrilled to death and immediately set about gathering up their warm clothes so they could head out into the cold. Luckily church started at eleven so they had a little bit of time to play. I knew the snow would be gone by the time we were out of church, so I'm glad they got to play and build their annual snowman.

Sorry about the blurriness......just checking on your eye sight!

Porter was not about to be left out of the fun.

finishing up the snow man...
and then my camera died, so I didn't get a picture of his face. So sad.
But the very best part is that it is already melted! All except the snowmen (they made 2). Now we had our snow, bring on the flowers and the leaves on the trees!

My New Floor

This week we decided to take on a little remodeling project. I was a little nervous about the whole thing, I wasn't quite sure I would love the end results and that would be bad. But we took the plunge and we ripped out our disgusting carpet. No more fingernail polish stains, no more paint stains, no more gum smashed into the carpet, and no more food getting ground into the carpet under the table! I'm really excited about that part! So here is our week in pictures....

Before pictures....

My kids being cute....

The process....

Porter's involvement....

This boy was in seventh heaven all week! I couldn't keep him away from the action. He had to be involved in every way! It was really cute. (to me, maybe not to the men)

starting to come together....

Project Supervisor....

Power tools!!!! Oh, the Power tools!!!!

And finally, the finished product....

And all back together again....

I LOVE IT!
Thanks everyone for all of your help! It was a big project and we really appreciate all the help! Thank you Babe for putting up with my pickiness and grumblings about calking. I really do love you with all my heart! You're my #1. I love you!
Come see my house :)
